Job Purpose
The Checkout Operator is responsible for handling customer transactions efficiently and providing high-quality customer service at the point of sale. The role ensures a smooth and positive shopping experience.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist customers with purchases, inquiries, and general assistance.
- Handle customer concerns or complaints and refer complex issues to the supervisor or manager.
Point of Sale (POS) Operations
- Operate cash registers and POS systems accurately.
- Scan goods, process sales transactions, and issue receipts.
- Accept various payment methods, including cash, EFTPOS, and credit cards.
Cash Handling
- Handle cash, provide correct change, and balance the till at the end of each shift.
- Follow cash handling procedures and security protocols to minimise discrepancies.
Store Presentation
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised checkout area.
- Ensure checkout counters are well stocked with bags and necessary supplies.
Stock Support
- Assist with restocking shelves and maintaining product displays when required.
- Help with basic inventory tasks such as checking expiry dates and product rotation.
Compliance & Health and Safety
- Follow store policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
